Today, AMC announced that The Walking Dead will conclude with a “two-year eleventh season that will span 24 episodes.” These 22 episodes will finish airing in 2022, and are separate from the 6 bonus episodes that are set to air in 2021 as part of an extended Season 10.

The Walking Dead Universe is and has been expanding as time goes on. That said, Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride will reprise their roles as Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier for a spin-off set to premiere in 2023. This series was created by Chief Content Officer of the franchise, Scott M. Gimple and current showrunner of The Walking Dead, Angela Kang, who will also be serving as showrunner.
Also announced today was an upcoming “episodic anthology” titled Tales of the Walking Dead, which is being worked on by Gimple at AMC. This anthology series will focus on both new and existing characters within the Walking Dead universe.
The Walking Dead on AMC may be ending, but it is still a great time to be a Walking Dead fan. This October, AMC is airing not only the long awaited Season 10 finale of The Walking Dead, but also the Season 6 premiere of Fear the Walking Dead, and the series premiere of The Walking Dead: World Beyond, which is a two-season limited event taking place within the Walking Dead Universe. All of this is separate from the trilogy of Walking Dead movies that will focus on Rick Grimes. Additionally, Image Comics is re-printing the entire Walking Dead comic series that started it all – this time in color – which will also start in October.
