RLJE Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, has acquired the US rights to the rock and roll biopic, Creation Stories from Metro International Entertainment. Based on the life of Creation Records creator and founder Alan McGee, RLJE Films picked up Creation Stories ahead of its North American premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
“This film tells the story of one of the most iconic figures in music,” said Mark Ward, Chief Acquisitions Officer at RLJE Films. “With a soundtrack that will take you straight back to the 1990s and a filmmaking team that includes director Nick Moran, writers Irvine Welsh and Dean Cavanagh and executive producer Danny Boyle, we cannot wait for US audiences to go on the fantastic ride that is Creation Stories.”
Written by Dean Cavanagh (Kubricks) and Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting), Creation Stories was directed by Nick Moran (The Kid). The film stars Ewen Bremner (Wonder Woman, Trainspotting), Kirsty Mitchell (The Hitman’s Bodyguard), Suki Waterhouse (The Divergent Series), Thomas Turgoose (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Leo Flanagan (“Waterloo Road”) and Jason Isaacs (Fury).
Creation Stories charts the true story of the rise and fall of Creation Records and its infamous founder, Alan McGee; the man responsible for supplying the “Brit Pop” soundtrack to the 90s, a decade of cultural renaissance known as Cool Britannia. From humble beginnings to Downing Street soirées, from dodging bailiffs to releasing multi-platinum albums, Creation had it all. Breakdowns, bankruptcy, fights and friendships… and not forgetting the music. Featuring some of the greatest records you have ever heard, we follow Alan through a drug-fueled haze of music and mayhem, as his rock’n’roll dream brings the world Oasis, Primal Scream, and other generation-defining bands.
The film was produced by Shelley Hammond, Hollie Richmond and Nathan McGough of Burning Wheel Productions as well as Orian Williams (Control), Mickey Gooch, Jr. (Madness in the Method) and Ben Dillon with financing coming from Head Gear Films, Sony Music and a network of private investors.
