Marta Milans returns to portray Rosa Vasquez, the foster mom to the children in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. She is the emotional core of the movie, and a positive maternal figure that helps shape the title character.
Marta shines opposite Zachary Levi, Helen Mirren, and Lucy Lui. Other cast includes Grace Caroline Currey (Annabelle: Creation), Asher Angel (Andi Mack), Jack Dylan Grazer (It Chapter Two), Adam Brody (Promising Young Woman), Ross Butler (Raya and the Last Dragon), Meagan Good (Day Shift), D.J. Marta speaks 6 languages and outside of the DC Universe, she has starred in the highly successful Spanish television series “White Lines” and “The Pier.”

What was it like coming back for the sequel?
Marta: AMAZING!!!!!! I was so excited to play Mama Rosa again!!
What was your reaction to the script when you first read it?
Marta: I called our writer and thanked him for gifting me the most beautiful scene in the whole movie. It’s an incredible moment between my character and young Billy.
Can you tell us a bit more about what we can expect from the sequel?
Marta: Our sequel is bigger, funnier and more spectacular, but the heart of the family is still there. I love it!
In terms of Mama Rosa, what can we expect from her in this sequel?
Marta: Mama Rosa finds out her kids are superheroes… so imagine having to deal with that !! She has to worry so much more for everyone. But it is also quite hilarious seeing her reactions to the situations that the Shazamily has to confront.
Are you like Mama Rosa at all? Was it easy getting back into character?
Marta: It was so easy. I love this character so much. I modeled it after my mom who is the OG Mama Rosa, also known as the child whisperer. I had a pretty spot on inspiration right in my own family.
She is kind of the core of the group, why do the kids gravitate toward her?
Marta: Mama Rosa has a huge heart filled with love for everyone. She loves unconditionally and without judgment. There is nothing purer than that. And that is all a child needs.
There’s a huge theme of found family within Shazam, does this continue with the sequel?
Marta: It absolutely does. Billy is about to grow out of the foster care system, which is terrifying him, I think. We see his struggle with this in the sequel.
What was your favorite part of filming the sequel?
Marta: My favorite part of filming this movie was being reunited with all my kids, Zac and Cooper again. It was a dream. I love everyone so much and I was just so happy to be together on this adventure.
What was the most challenging part?
Marta: We filmed during COVID times so that was not the easiest. But we were able to make a beautiful movie during challenging times, and I am very proud of that!!
Is there anything you hope the audience takes away from watching Shazam 2?
Marta: I hope if any kid sees this movie and if they do not come from a supportive family background, or a broken home, or is about to age out of the foster care system… just know there are true superheroes in real life like Mama Rosa. There are incredible mothers out there ready to bring true love in a found family. Don’t lose hope!!
Without spoiling anything, how is Shazam 2 going to top the first one? Why should people head to the theaters and see it?
Marta: This movie is bigger, and all of Mama Rosa’s kids have great comedic moments. There is so much more action, and the evil sisters are so much fun to watch. And a scary dragon shows up!! But my favorite parts are Billy and Mama Rosa‘s emotional moments. It makes me tear up every time.
