Jeremy Snead on the deeper themes in ‘Matter of Time’

Jeremy Snead, widely known for gaming-centered nonfiction storytelling, goes on a new type of adventure with his sci-fi film, Matter of Time.

Snead has previously produced the documentary feature Video Games: The Movie and directed the series Playing With Power: The Nintendo StoryWith Matter Of Time, he brings that same kinetic love of gaming culture to a deeply human narrative about time, connection, and the creative drive.

Matter of Time follows Charlie Fleck, a 29-year-old aspiring video-game designer who discovers a mysterious device that can stop time — giving him the chance to finally pursue the dream he’s never had time for. As Charlie leans into the intoxicating power to “pause” life, the film asks what ambition costs, and what (and who) we risk losing when we try to control the moments that shape us. Matter of Time blends emotional character storytelling with genre-bending sci-fi elements, exploring friendship, purpose, grief, and the lengths we go to protect the people we love.

Directed by Snead, the film stars Myles Erlick and Sean Astin, with Ali Astin and Jamie Alexander among the supporting cast. This film also marks the first time Sean and his daughter Ali have appeared on screen together since The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Matter of Time made its world premiere at the Dallas International Film Festival (DIFF) 2025, where it was billed as a sci-fi dramedy filmed entirely in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, and later screened internationally at SCI-FI-LONDON 2025.
