Exclusive Interview with ‘1992’ writer-director, Ariel Vromen

With 1992, writer/director/producer, Ariel Vromen (The Iceman), delivers an emotionally powerful thriller that highlights the many layers of America’s past, present, and future. We got to chat with Ariel about the how the film’s themes still apply today along with what it was like working with Ray Liotta on his final film.

In 1992, Mercer (Tyrese Gibson) is desperately trying to rebuild his life and his relationship with his son (Christopher A’mmanuel) amidst the turbulent 1992 LA uprising following the Rodney King verdict. Across town, another father and son (Ray Liotta and Scott Eastwood) put their own strained relationship to the test as they plot a dangerous heist to steal catalytic converters, which contain valuable platinum, from the factory where Mercer works. As tensions rise in Los Angeles and chaos erupts, both families reach their boiling points when they collide in this tense crime-thriller.

1992 was written by Sascha Penn and Ariel Vromen. The film stars Tyrese Gibson, Clé Bennett, Dylan Arnold, Christopher A’mmanuel, Michael Beasley, Ori Pfeffer, Tosin Morohunfola, Oleg Taktarov, with Scott Eastwood, and the late Ray Liotta. Tita, Snoop Dogg, and Tyrese Gibson serve as Executive Producers.

Born in Tel Aviv, Ariel has been the creative force behind numerous projects including Feature Films, Shorts, Music Videos, and Documentaries. He is perhaps best known for writing and directing the award-winning feature film The Iceman starring Academy Award nominees Michael Shannon, Winona Ryder, James Franco, as well as Ray Liotta and Chris Evans. He also wrote and directed several other films, including the underground hit Jewel of the Sahara, Rx, Criminal, and Danika.
