Director’s Statement:
When the script for Double Life first landed in my hands I sat down to read it right away (a rarity these days, where I’m inundated with scripts “I just have to read!” for this producer or that producer). I’d been given the synopsis over the phone and was really looking forward to getting into it. I read through it in less than an hour, and then I read it again. And right after that I called Brad Krevoy at MPCA to tell him I would do it, no hesitation. It was all already there, in my head. I fell in love with these two women with diametrically opposed lives, both in love with this one man and both driven to find his killer. They are two warriors that don’t have a clue how to but they are going to. Javicia Leslie and Pascale Hutton bit into these two parts hard and every day was a physically challenging frenetic discovery for them to crank Jo and Sharon up a notch with each punch, kick and shot fired. Creating this film with these two fierce actors and the ensemble that surrounded them was one of the greatest experiences of filmmaking for me. Double Life is more than a psychological thriller it’s a movie about friendship that grows in parched soil from the most dubious seeds. – Martin Wood
