
Director Sean Ellis’ The Cut is a hauntingly beautiful and psychological thrilling approach to the boxing genre.
Synopsis: After a career-ending defeat, a former champion trains for redemption – but as obsession takes hold and reality unravels, he may be spiraling into something far more terrifying.

Sean is an Oscar and twice-Bafta nominated writer, director. His most recent feature was Eight for SIlver which premiered at Sundance 2022 and stars Boyd Holbrook, Kelly Reilly, and Alistair Petrie. The film went on to be nominated for best film at Sitges and Gerardmer International Film festivals as well as being nominated for a Golden Frog at CameraImage for outstanding cinematography.
His film Anthropoid, starring Cillian Murphy, Jamie Dornan, and Toby Jones, tells the story of Operation Anthropoid, the World War II assassination of Reinhard Heydrich by exiled Czechoslovak soldiers. It was nominated for 12 Czech Oscars.
Sean wrote, directed, produced and was cinematographer of his film Metro Manila, which won the Audience Award at Sundance, 3 BIFA awards including best film and best Director, and the Hamburg Film Critic Award at the 2013 Filmfest Hamburg.. It was the UK submission to the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film and was nominated for Foreign Film at BAFTA.
Sean’s other credits include the Oscar nominated short CASHBACK starring Emilia Fox that was later turned into a full length feature and released at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film won C.I.C.A.E Award at San Sebastian International Film Festival.
